As you probably know, I don't just post silly quickee links. Not my style. In honor of the birth of our great nation, I felt like sharing.
1. Can 2011 get here quick? In case you missed it, the Seattle Sounders/Portland Timbers U.S. Open Cup game was an outlier for a couple reasons, namely people actually were excited for an Open Cup game. Just check out some of the stuff on Portland message board. Great stuff, aside from the guy in the Green Man suit. Hope this kind of stuff doesn't scare Don Garber.
And big thanks for my pal Richard for sending me a couple pics from the match. I will restrain myself from posting a bedsheet with a picture of a rifle stating, "Keller Do the Cobain." Poor taste.
I will, however, post something from some traveling San Jose ultras -- Man Boobs FC -- featuring Drew Carey, Paul Allen, and Sigi Schdmid.

2. And speaking of man boobs ... Fashion is one of my least favorite things in the world, but this year's crop of Premier League kits are tragically awful. Brutal. Whoever designed the Everton and Manchester United home shirts must be from the near future or something. Horrendous.
Have a good Fourth. Enjoy Michael Owen at Old Trafford (trying not to laugh).

Man Boobs FC.... Yeah that raised a chuckle even from me. Although getting a goal in the first minute probably lightened my mood.
The Sounders/Timbers game was THE soccer event on US soil this year. The TV coverage didn't do it justice.
How do I know that soccer is finally making an impact here in the US? Another good WC qualifying campaign? Nah. A good showing at the Confed Cup? Nope. But when the number of smoke bombs and flares at a match outnumbers any I've seen at a match in Argentina, Ecuador, etc, you know you are on to something.
Open invite to a Sounders game still stands, 'dillo.
The best part of the Everton shirt is the Beer Chang logo - I'm 99% sure that beer has formaldehyde in it. If you're ever in Thailand, for the love of god, shell out the extra change for a Singha or a Beerlao. Or if you're cheap, you can not drink the last 10% or so of the bottle, as the formaldehyde tends to settle to the bottom.
That said, probably not the best omen.
Beer Chang has formaldehyde. Way to go, Everton!
I can tell you that the new Chelsea home jerseys, while ridiculous looking, are exceptionally comfortable. Their away jerseys look pretty sharp, though.
I like the looks of all three Tottenham shirts, and am ecstatic to finally get to watch a team in orange other than the Dutch national team. Thanks, Wolves!
I was at that game, though not in the stands. There's a fence behind the benches and I and a few hundred people watched from there. The best part was when some of the army lit a flare right in front of me. I had a kerchief with me, so I had a mask ready-made. It took security several minutes to put it out, while the army did their best to look innocent.
Fuck Seattle.
I thought that United fired AIG and that it's no longer "America's Team."
